Barrier creams are used to prevent crickets or cockroaches from climbing out of the container. This is generally not a big problem for crickets as they have trouble scaling smooth plastic. However if this is required, then you can apply a smooth slippery tape or barrier creams to the top 5cm (1.96 in) of a container rim.
Barrier creams commonly used are Vaseline, olive oil or “Fluon Insect film” (can be purchased online). Fluon is applied as a white paint, but dries and eventually becomes a powder. This eventually rubs off, so care must be taken to avoid disturbing this area. Under normal circumstances, Fluon would need to be applied every couple of months or as required.
